The Christmas celebration we organized in camp ended, with a boom. I see that everyone’s happy. Everyone enjoyed the food. Everyone enjoyed the games and the performance. It’s a great night of fun.
There were hiccups of course. Trainees were involved in the individual physical proficiency test (we called it IPPT for short) we were not informed of. It delayed the event drastically, albeit given us more than enough time to prepare food. The test drained the people so much that it literally transformed them into hungry monsters, so much that the food seem to be insufficient. By 7pm, all of them were like hungry lions waiting to be unleashed.
And there were the ugly scenes. I know I can’t expect decent dining etiquette after having them starving without food, but at the very least they should queue for the food and not rush to them. I also expect proper hygiene (especially with the rise of food poisoning cases after the Prima Deli incident) from senior specialists and warrant officers but they didn’t. It’s fine for them to steal a bite or two, but not with their bare hands. Lastly, I would have expect some of them to stay behind to clear the mess up; however, not many did. Those who stayed were people who were in need to use the room for another event the very next day. Everyone else left without helping.
It’s disheartening to claim that we are a family but in actual fact we don’t behave like one.
