Worth looking back

DSC00046, originally uploaded by raynorgan.

It was an event that cadets, from the support arms formations are reluctant to go. Not that we are not willing to train in foreign ground, but it was almost the end of service term back then. Everyone is reluctant to part with their friends whom they had known for 13 long weeks.

We come from many places, all across the land. Of many different races, together hand in hand. The OCS song, it was really worth singing then, a song that spurs us on, a song that inspires us to go on whenever we were dead tired then, especially up Mt. Biang.

Then the people. They were the ones that made me feel welcomed when I first stepped into Stagmont camp, a day later than the rest. And they were the ones that allow me to call the camp my second home, because they transformed my book-in day to a day which I actually look forward to.

I got to know Kenneth, who did not hesistate at all, to help me move my stuff, really, he is one self-less guy. Then I met the rest of the gang, Minji, who became my buddy later in the professional term. Yong Jie, the game freak, or the personality-changed boy whenever his girlfriend is around.

Then I met Kelvin and Agustus, who are truly real people. Well, not many people I met were truthful, but they were the ones whom I love talking to. And there’s always something new that I can learn from them.

Qi Xian joined just even later and it was great having his company. The days back in Golf Wing are truly memorable with him and Teng Tuon around. Having him around means we have extra music and extra similar topics to chat about. Not forgetting Mambo Nicki, always there to entertain us with MRT voice-overs and singing along sessions with the common chinese children’s song. I think the latter skill will come in handy soon.

Hon Mun, the walking encyclopedia, who read many thick books in the libraries. Nope, he’s not a nerd, he clubs and he had lots of fun. I missed the buffet and Tim Sum sessions we had. He was there to motivate me to work harder, because whenever I saw him, I felt guilty for not working hard enough. Our forth-runner, the horse-sey award holder.

Next in the line were Matthew and Darius, the former, being the slackest ang-moh I had ever met. He read a lot, and he ate hell lots. The latter, probably the next most knowledge-able guy, who is reading medicine now. I hope I never get to see him though, because he is intending to major in Oncology.

I practically introduced bunk two, people.

The unseen

Anyone who has at least an ounce of common sense will agree with me that what’s hidden is scarier than what’s in the open. An enemy who is hidden is definitely so much lethal as compared to a gang of robbers walking openly down the street. Just a week ago, I was down with the flu bug, and I started coughing pretty badly accompanied with splitting headaches.

I’m ill.

More and more people have taken ill. With a recent high on people suffering from sore-eyes, which is highly infectious, and people with flu-like symptoms. Just like me, yours truly.

It does not help when you have tonnes of work to do, and your supposingly working partner kept cracking really lame jokes with you. Now, I’m going to become Mr. Unpopular because I’m really stressed up and want to finish up some work. I ain’t taking any more nonsense. Oh, give me a break.

Technology, the doube-edge sword

Had quite a fruitful discussion on the networking assignment, finally some quality discussion and work done. It isn’t easy coordinating time in NUS, probably due to different schedules everyone has. Some project discussions even have to resort to online discussions instead. Ironically, yours truly, an IT student, is beginning to dislike the technology. It seems to bridge everyone together. The Internet is capable of connecting people all over the world, however, at the same time, segregating us as well.

Discussions lose their human touch, messages start to get misleading. And conflicts can easily arise due to one’s proficency in the language. And to make things worse, some users disregard proper netiquette.
